Defining Totalitarian Government

When trying to define what a totalitarian government is, You have to understand The goals of this form of rule. Totalitarianism is a form of government that puts absolute power in the hands of an individual, or a group of people such as a political party or special committee. The goal of the implementation of the ideology of those in power becomes the absolute focus of the government. Those that oppose the ultimate control by the totalitarian regime are considered enemies of the state.

When trying to define what a totalitarian government is, You have to understand The goals of this form of rule. The main goal is quite simple. It is absolute Political, social, economic and cultural control. The totalitarian regime is all powerful and merciless in it's iron fisted control of the citizens and all aspects of societal and political life.

Totalitarianism is a form of government that puts absolute power in the hands of an individual, or a group of people such as a political party or special committee. It is based on the political theories of Plato, Karl Marx and Jean Jacques Rousseau. It was actually  put into  practice in Italy under Mussolini after WWI and in Joseph Stalin's Russia.

Communism, Fascism and Nazism  all are totalitarian in nature. In these political powers you will find that they all have the same traits. They attack the interests of the individual and any opposition to their ever increasing hunger for power. You will also find that the policies that are initiated are designed to promote the moral decay of the society. The value of human life is disregarded and millions die under totalitarian oppression.

The totalitarian Government develops and disseminates massive propaganda to deceive the population. The use of building a personality Cult is very important to the establishment and the maintaining of power.State controlled media are necessary for both these tactics. Next you will find that Those seeking to establish a totalitarian regime will attack freedom of speech and freedom of assembly. Mass surveillance is instituted. Once power is achieved,State terrorism will be used to control the masses.

This overtly oppressive form of Government allows no individual freedom and strives to subordinate every aspect of the individuals life to the authority of the government through deception, coercion and oppression. All is for the state. Nothing is to be for the individual. This leads to a merge of society and state that results in a collective that is to strive only for the goals of the ideology of the central government.

The goal of the implementation the ideology of those in power becomes the absolute focus of the government. There is no tolerance for dissent. The structure of society is to be torn down and destroyed so it can be replaced with the society that is deemed to be perfect under the ideological goals no matter what the cost in blood and treasure may be.

National Socialism of Nazi Germany as well as the Communist regimes of the Soviet Union, North Korea and China are examples of totalitarian government in modern times.

The totalitarian concept is run by official mandate of the state in every area of individual life such as health care, education, employment, religious views, and reproductive control. It may start out with very subtle changes but then will progress with large campaigns of media promoting propaganda to sway the people to relinquish more control to the government. Then the mandates and laws will be implemented to solidify the loss of individual freedoms. Those that oppose the ultimate control by the totalitarian regime are considered enemies of the state.
